Mechanical CAD Designer – Autodesk Inventor – Industrial Robotics

Advanced Robotics Group, LLC is a deep-tech robotics company building industrial, fully autonomous systems designed to operate in harsh, real-world environments. Alongside our robotics platforms, we are developing a proprietary big data and analytics system that processes hundreds of terabytes of data to generate actionable insights.

Advanced Robotics Group is seeking a Mechanical CAD Designer with Autodesk Inventor experience. This role will focus on translating existing customer drawings, field measurements, sketches, and engineering concepts into accurate 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings within Autodesk Inventor. The position plays a critical role in supporting engineering, operations, fabrication, and robotic deployment activities.

The ideal candidate is methodical, self-motivated, highly organized, and capable of maintaining drawing accuracy and revision control in a fast-paced technical environment.

As a Mechanical CAD Designer, you will:

  • Convert customer-supplied drawings, PDFs, sketches, and field notes into accurate Autodesk Inventor models and drawings.
  • Reconstruct accurate 3D mechanical layouts from legacy drawings, incomplete documentation, field notes, photographs, and redlines.
  • Create and maintain 3D parts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
  • Develop mechanical layouts and support documentation for robotic deployment systems and AST-related equipment.
  • Maintain drawing libraries, file structures, revision control, and documentation standards.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and mechanical fitment for accuracy and consistency.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and field personnel to incorporate updates and field modifications.
  • Produce clear manufacturing and fabrication drawings for internal and external use.
  • Assist in improving drawing standards, templates, and drafting efficiency within the team.
  • Ensure all drawings and models are completed with strong attention to detail and consistency.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with:

  • Routed systems/piping/industrial equipment
  • Parametric modeling
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical drafting, mechanical design, or CAD design preferably in industrial systems or oil and gas.
  • Familiarity with:
  • Vault or document revision control systems
  • DWG/DXF conversions
  • PDF-to-model workflows
  • Familiarity with laser cutting, machining, or fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of tolerance stack-up and mechanical fitment concepts.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Houston, Texas. Due to the highly detailed and interconnected nature of the work, the role is intended to support direct peer review, real-time collaboration, and coordination with engineering, operations, and leadership teams. The position involves extended computer and CAD workstation use in a professional office setting and requires strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills. No travel expected.
